Christmas is a wonderful time to visit Bournemouth thanks to a wide array of festive events like the Bournemouth Christmas Market (AKA Alpine Market) and of course, the iconic Christmas Tree Wonderland which lights up the city’s gardens with an impressive assortment of lighting displays.

We first enjoyed these festivities back in 2019, and have most recently gone back to see the 2021 edition. We are happy to report that Bournemouth’s Christmas festivities are as magical as ever!

The Alpine Market at Bournemouth Square

If it’s gifts and delicious food you’re looking for, make sure you check out the Bournemouth Alpine Market, full of cozy wooden stalls selling everything you can imagine from extra spicy hot sauces to fun, giftable signs.

You’ll also find plenty of great options for food here, from Christmas market treats like sausages and crepes to more quintessentially British options like Yorkshire pudding wraps.

The Alpine Lodge Bar at Bournemouth Square

For a festive tipple or two, you can also pop into the cozy Alpine Lodge Bar at Bournemouth Square, open seven days a week with a bookable private igloo along with happy hours and live music.

Bournemouth Snow Domes

Running from November 19th until Christmas Eve, another festive option for Christmas refreshments in Bournemouth are the covered and heated domes at ‘Bournemouth Snow Domes’, which have set up shop at Bournemouth Pavilion.

These cozy domes can fit up to 6 people, and bookings include refreshments such a pizza, mulled wine, beer, or prosecco.

SKATE Bournemouth

Another excellent wintery activity to enjoy in Bournemouth is a nice skating session at SKATE Bournemouth in the Lower Gardens.

And if you get tired of skating around? Don’t worry – they have their own Alpine Bar too.

Picnic on the Piste

Since 2016, Picnic Park Deli at Bournemouth’s Westover Gardens has been a vibrant hub of live music, events and… of course, food and drink.

And this kiosk becomes all the more magical during the Christmas season with their Picnic on the Piste event, which introduces a fun wintery menu and of course, a festive ambiance perfect for sipping on that 10th hot chocolate.

Lastly, for a completely free and festive Christmas thing to do, make sure you follow the Bournemouth Christmas Tree Wonderland trail which can be found with spots around the city center, mainly in Bournemouth Gardens leading up to the Big Wheel.
