The Pfastatt Elves’ Christmas Market may not be as well known as other Christmas markets in Alsace (like Strasbourg or Colmar for example), but if you’re looking for an adorable and low-key Christmas market experience in France, this is one you have to check out.

Known in French as the Pfastatt, Marché de Noël des Lutins, this quaint market tends to take place over only two weekends of the Advent season, bringing together around 80 exhibitors in an enchantingly festive square, dotted with fairytale displays and unique shopping opportunities.

We first visited this Christmas market in November 2019, and only found out about it through an exhibitors’ recommendation while browsing the Christmas market Kingersheim. It ended up being one of our favorite Christmas markets we visited during the trip!

Practical Info for Pfastatt Christmas Market 2024

Here are some quick must-knows for Pfastatt Christmas Market this year:

In need of a place to stay? Here are some quick hotel recommendations:

*NOTE: Pfastatt is quite small, so we would perhaps recommend staying overnight in nearby Mulhouse instead like we did. It’s a much bigger city with more restaurants and things to do, plus an amazing Christmas market of its own. Here are some hotel options in Mulhouse.

Why Visit Pfastatt Christmas Market?

Wondering whether Pfastatt Christmas Market is worth a trip? Here are some reasons to visit:

It has a really charming theme

As we mentioned above, the Pfastatt Christmas Market is actually known as the “Pfastatt Elves’ Christmas Market” in French, with much of the decor dedicated to the secret world of elves, meaning cute miniature displays depicting all the wonderful hijinks our elf friends get up to.

This includes a mini train station, and even a mini Christmas market ft. elves shopping. If you’re looking for a nice Christmas market to explore with kids, this theme adds an especially magical touch.

It has a very non-touristy feel

As Pfastatt’s Christmas market isn’t as well known among international tourists as others in the Alsace region, the vibe and atmosphere here is very different, and not to mention – less crowded!

If you are looking for a low-key Christmas market to visit where you’re surrounded by local families and shoppers, rather than a sea of your fellow English-speaking tourists, then this is a great option to check out.

There are lots of great handmade gift options

While this can be said for most Christmas markets, we felt like the market in Pfastatt had a really solid focus on local, handmade gifts.

Whereas some bigger markets nowadays may peddle mass-produced goods, lots of the stalls we saw here were unique, like this woman who made jewelry out of upcycled Nespresso capsules:

Its proximity other lovely Christmas markets in the area

Last but not least, it’s worth noting just how close Pfastatt is to other excellent Christmas markets in Alsace.

Mulhouse for example is only a 10 minute drive away, but many of Alsace’s other famous Christmas markets (Colmar, Eguisheim, Kaysersberg, Obernai, Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr) are all less than 45 minutes away by car.

So, if you’re looking to add a bit of variety to your Christmas market trip, and you find yourself nearby, a stop at the Pfastatt Christmas Market is a no-brainer.

Where to Find Pfastatt Christmas Market

Wondering where to find Christmas market stalls in Pfastatt? Here are all the details you need!

The Christmas market festivities in Pfastatt center around the Foyer Saint-Maurice, located at 21 Rue Henri Haeffely, 68120 Pfastatt.

There are stalls spread out across the courtyard here, with lots of trees and winding walkways that make you feel like you’re navigating a little magical forest. It’s really quite impressive how they transform this (usually quite empty) space into something festive for the holidays!

They also have an indoor portion of the market at the Foyer Saint Maurice “salle culturelle” (cultural room), but don’t worry too much about trying to find it – it’ll be impossible to miss once you’re there.
