Christmas Markets in Lucerne to Visit
Wondering where to find Christmas market stalls in Lucerne? Here are some of the biggest Christmas market events in the city:
Lozärner Wiehnachtsmärt (Lucerne Christmas Market)
The most popular traditional Christmas market in Lucerne takes place every year at Franziskanerplatz.
The Lozärner Wiehnachtsmärt is a typical Christmas market filled with decorated wooden chalets selling all kinds of gifts, handicrafts, and traditional Christmas market food.
If it’s a cozy and authentic Christmas market you’re looking for, make sure to put this one on your list!
Luzerner Handwerksmarkt (Lucerne Handmade Market)
Taking place at the Weinmarkt in Lucerne’s Old Town, the Luzerner Handwerksmarkt is a market that showcases handmade products from local artisans.
While it runs throughout the year, the Christmas edition of their market is extra special thanks to the abundance of beautiful festive gift ideas that they have to offer.
Rudolfs Weihnacht (Rudolf’s Christmas)
In Inseli-Park, you’ll find another one of Lucerne’s best Christmas markets: the Rudolfs Weihnacht, which consists of cozy wooden huts with rotating vendors selling handmade gifts, as well as tasty treats.
There’s also a fondue chalet on-site, along with a winter bar and a special children’s yurt.
Wintervergnügen Vögeligärtli (Winter Fun Vögeligärtli)
Another unique Christmas Market in Lucerne (and a relatively new addition to the Lucerne Christmas market scene) is the Wintervergnügen Vögeligärtli, which takes place in the middle of Vögeligärtli park in Lucerne’s Neustadt.
This market places an emphasis on food and culture, with four weeks of delicious international dishes and drinks on offer, as well as fun programming like candle making and musical entertainment throughout the festive period.
Luzerner Designtage (Lucerne Design Days)
While not explicitly a Christmas event, the Luzerner Designtage take place during the festive period, so we figured it made sense to include it.
This special designer market places an emphasis on “unique, unusual and elegant products” created by designers from Switzerland and its surrounding countries.
If you’re looking for a place to pick up cool gifts beyond the usual Christmas market trinkets, then this is definitely a Lucerne Christmas Market to add to your list.
Schweizerhof Christmas Market
Last but not least, it’s worth mentioning that one of the fanciest hotels in the city puts on a Christmas market of their own each year.
The Schweizerhof Christmas Market (of course) takes place at the Schweizerhof Hotel, with over 70 stalls to peruse.
While it’s only on for a few select dates during the festive season, it’s well worth a visit, if even just for a peek at the splendour of the hotel without needing to book a stay!
NOTE: In addition to these traditional Christmas markets, there will also be ‘Christmas Tree markets’ set up at Schweizerhofquai, Nationalquai, Helvetiaplatz, Bellerive-Höhe. While this probably won’t be of interest to you unless you’re buying a Christmas tree, it’s a nice local tradition to know about.
