If you’re looking for a Christmas market experience that feels straight out of the pages of a storybook, Eguisheim Christmas Market has you covered.
Widely considered to be one of the top inspirations for Belle’s village in Beauty and the Beast, Eguisheim is a picture-perfect wonderland full of winding cobblestoned streets, half-timbered houses in all sorts of pastel shades, and (at Christmas time), one of the prettiest Christmas markets that the Alsace region has to offer.
We first visited this Christmas market in November 2019 and loved the absolute fairytale vibe of it all. We even decided to stay overnight in one of those aforementioned half-timbered houses and honestly, it was so magical we might have cried a little.

Why Visit Eguisheim Christmas Market?
Wondering whether Eguisheim Christmas Market is worth a trip? Here are some reasons to visit:
Charming and cozy atmosphere
We’re not sure what it was about Eguisheim that had us so utterly in love, but whether it was the storybook architecture, the dazzling garlands of lights, or the high density of adorable senior couples holding hands, we thought this was probably one of the most charming Christmas markets we visited during our entire trip.
The market is small enough that it feels cozy, but there’s enough to browse that it doesn’t get boring. Probably the perfect mix in our books, although you wouldn’t need more than a day to experience it all fully.
The town itself is an absolute fairytale
Again, we have to stress just how beautiful Eguisheim is. There’s a reason it’s one of the most visited villages in the Alsace region, with postcard views like this at every turn:
It’s close to a lot of other gorgeous Christmas markets
Last but certainly not least, it’s worth noting just how close Eguisheim is to some of the other amazing Christmas markets in the Alsace region.
Colmar for instance is only a 10 minute drive away, with other excellent Christmas markets like the ones in Kaysersberg, Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr all accessible within 30 minutes.
And if you’re willing to drive a bit farther, the likes of Mulhouse, Thann, Kingersheim, and Pfastatt) are all less than 45 minutes away by car. Even Strasbourg is only about an hour away!
So, Eguisheim really does make a perfect addition to any Alsace Christmas market trip thanks to its central location (and fairytale beauty, of course).
Christmas Market Locations in Eguisheim to Visit
Wondering where to find Christmas market stalls in Eguisheim? Here are the main locations of Eguisheim Christmas Market:
Place du Marché aux Saules (Willow Market Square)
The Eguisheim Christmas Market is (just like the village itself) rather small, but one of the main shopping areas can be found in the Place du Marché aux Saules (Willow Market Square), with the main entrance near the statue of Joan of Arc.
Here, you’ll find several wooden huts selling beautiful handmade gifts, as well as classic Christmas market food and drink like mulled wine, candied nuts, and crêpes.
Place du Château Saint-Léon (Saint Leon Castle Square)
Another must-visit part of the Eguisheim Christmas Market is the Place du Château Saint-Léon (Saint Leon Castle Square), where the central fountain is fully decked out in Christmassy decor.
There’s not much here in terms of shopping, but there are a few lovely terraces around where you can grab some food and drink, or otherwise just admire the beautifully illuminated facades.
All Around the Historic Core of Eguisheim
Lastly, it must be said that the entirety of Eguisheim’s historic core is wonderfully strollable during the festive season, so be sure to explore and have a look around!
From nativity scenes and hidden courtyards full of lights, there’s a ton of festive cheer to be found practically around every corner.
