Kingersheim Christmas Market is a little-known gem in Alsace known for its unique eco-friendly, upcycling theme. It’s one of the few Christmas markets we’ve come across dedicated solely to a green theme, and while it’s far from a traditional Xmas market, it was one of our favourites we visited during our Alsace Christmas road trip!
We first visited this Christmas market in November 2019 and loved the myriad of cool upcycled gifts, and the funky decor found throughout.

*NOTE: Kingersheim is quite small, so we would perhaps recommend staying overnight in nearby Mulhouse instead like we did. It’s a much bigger city with more restaurants and things to do, plus an amazing Christmas market of its own. Here are some hotel options in Mulhouse.
A Brief History of Kingersheim Christmas Market
For over 5 years, the Kingersheim Christmas Market has added an eco-flair to the Alsace Christmas market scene, with the tagline “Noël se recycle!”, or “Christmas is recycled!”
Besides showcasing vendors who make products out of upcycled goods, the market also has an events programme throughout the weekend that revolve around its eco cause, from an upcycled fashion show to upcycled games.
As a fun bonus, each year brings on its own unique theme as well. In 2019 when we visited, the theme was bicycles, with tons of great decor fashioned out of old bikes and wheels.
Why Visit Kingersheim Christmas Market?
Wondering whether Kingersheim Christmas Market is worth a trip? Here are some reasons to visit:
It’s unique
There are very few Christmas markets like this one in Alsace, and while we admit it’s not the traditional type of Christmas market most tourists visit the region for, it’s a really fun twist on festive shopping, and a great addition to any Xmas market itinerary… especially given its proximity to other well-known markets!
It has tons of great upcycled gifts
The gifts we saw for sale at this Christmas market were some of our favorites.
While visiting some of the bigger Christmas markets in Alsace like Strasbourg and Colmar, you’ll often come across the same set of products over and over, but the ones available at the Kingersheim Christmas Market are incredibly unique, and often you’re speaking directly to the artisans that made them, which makes the experience all the more special.
It’s close to other great Christmas markets
Last but not least, it’s worth noting just how close Kingersheim is to other excellent Christmas markets in the area.
Mulhouse for example is only a 10 minute drive away, but many of Alsace’s other famous Christmas markets (Colmar, Eguisheim, Kaysersberg, Obernai, Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr) are all less than 45 minutes away by car.
So, if you’re looking to add a bit of variety to your Christmas market trip, and you find yourself nearby, a stop at the Kingersheim Christmas Market is a no-brainer.
BONUS TIP: It was while chatting with a vendor at this Christmas Market that we learned about the all too underrated Pfastatt Christmas Market nearby. Definitely one to check out if you’re in the area!
