While probably best known for its annual pumpkin festival, Ludwigsburg is a beautiful city in Baden-Württemberg that has one of the best hidden gem Christmas markets in the state.

How magical is Ludwigsburg at Christmas time?

Picture bauble-studded garlands hanging from green-shuttered windows, stacks of wooden chalets fringed with festive decor and of course, countless revellers drawing sips of piping hot Glühwein.

We first visited this Christmas market in November 2018 and loved walking around the beautiful Baroque town, admiring all the unique stalls selling gifts, and mouthwatering food.

While it’s a photogenic little city year-round, Christmas is when Ludwigsburg really shines, with tons of enchanting Christmas decor lining storefronts, building facades and of course, all the stalls belonging to its Christmas market.

If it’s festive aesthetics you’re after, Ludwigsburg is a great pick.

There are a lot of great gifts for sale

While Ludwigsburg doesn’t have as many stalls or individual markets as larger cities nearby, it makes up for it in variety and quality.

We really enjoyed browsing the gift selections here, made up of everything from local food products and handicrafts to beautiful decor for the home.

It’s close to many other great Christmas markets

Last but not least, it has to be noted that Ludwigsburg is very close to other great Christmas markets like the ones in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.

So, if you are planning a longer Christmas market trip and want to visit multiple markets in one go, combining Karlsruhe with some of these other cities makes a great deal of sense.

Wondering where to find Christmas market stalls in Ludwigsburg? Here are the main locations of Ludwigsburg Christmas Market:

Marktplatz

The main Christmas market area in Ludwigsburg can be found at Marktplatz, the city’s market square.

Here, in the shadow of the pretty-in-pink Evangelische Stadtkirche Ludwigsburg (Evangelical City Church), you’ll find dozens of wooden huts selling gifts, ornaments, and (most importantly) delicious Christmas market food.

Aspergerstrasse

Just behind the Ludwigsburg Marktplatz, you’ll come across another set of Christmas market stalls along Aspergerstrasse. During our visit, we saw vendors selling ready-to-eat meals to go, as well as foodie gifts like local jams and honeys.

While here, we also saw some cute children’s activities and rides perfect for those travelling with young ones in tow.
