Visiting Venice for Christmas markets?
First thing’s first: it’s important to note that if you’re looking for the typical wooden chalet, mulled wine, and ultra-cozy Christmas market vibes popular in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France, you won’t really find them here.
That’s because unlike in northern parts of Italy like Bolzano or Vipiteno, elaborate Christmas markets haven’t historically been an important part of festive tradition.
But that doesn’t mean visiting Venice for Christmas is a bad idea. Quite the opposite, actually! Winter visits mean fewer crowds, and the city comes alive with beautiful illuminations all around. There’s also a great deal of impressive nativity scenes, which are popular with visitors.

Again, while the Christmas markets in Venice aren’t in the same cozy central European style as you might find elsewhere, you can typically find Christmas market stalls at the following locations:

- Campo San Salvador
- Campo San LucaCampo Manin
A more popular attraction during Christmas time in Venice is the “Christmas Crib”, or nativity scene. You’ll find beautiful and elaborate nativity scenes constructed throughout the city, particularly in churches.
You’ll also find beautiful Christmas lights and decor all throughout the city.
